Come to me and I will give you rest

I was excited about the trip, however, getting there was stressful. I traveled alone. On one layover I had a mere 15 minutes to run clear to the opposite side of the airport with all my luggage. With a heavy backpack on my aching back, I dragged an uncooperative carry-on. I wasn’t going to make it. Then the welcoming words, “help, madam?”  “Yes! Oui! merci!” and just like that my burden was lifted onto the golf cart and I made my flight.

Have you ever felt excited about a party you’re giving or a new house you’re moving to but the work is so exhausting you lose the joy? Maybe your load is a sad one, buried under a load of bills or mourning a loved one? Regardless of your weariness, Jesus promises help. This doesn’t mean the affliction will be taken away, it means He will help carry it with you. In my airport analogy, I wasn’t magically transported to the plane, I simply had help.

How exactly will Jesus help? It can be a number of ways even unexpected ways. Regardless of how it starts with going to Him in prayer. Surrendering your burden and allowing Him to carry it with you. Trust His sovereignty, and have faith in His promise. Perhaps all you need is to lift your soul and see your problem from His perspective.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.” – Matt 11.28-30
