The tongue—a remarkable muscle. . . did you know that it’s the only muscle in our body that works independently of the skeleton? We use it constantly for eating, swallowing, and talking without tiring.

The tongue—a remarkable muscle. Oh, but it is so much more powerful than that! The Bible gives us great insight into its power, comparing its influence to how a small flame can set a forest on fire.

James 3:5 states that “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.” It has the power to tear down, curse, deceit, and oppress others, causing great harm and injustice. Words can be so much more hurtful than sticks and stones.

On the flip side. “A soothing tongue is a tree of life.” Guarding it keeps your soul from troubles. It can uplift and encourage the demoralized. But the best of all that little muscle in your mouth holds the power of eternity. Share with someone today “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved!”

Here’s the thing. One day soon “every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” But sadly, for many, it will be too late because their choice had already been made.
