Deuteronomy 18:10-12 “And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you.”
The original photograph for this painting was taken by me on a mission trip to Cuba in 2003. This woman is a “santera” she plays to the tourist who thinks it’s so cool, these women in colorful flowers in their hair and white dresses smoking cigars. But don’t be deceived they are not cool they deal with the dark forces of this world. But there is hope, the bright blue door she sits by reminds me of the hope in Christ. 1 John 4:1 says “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
