This image is about hope in the face of mortality. A grandfather and grandson embrace. They are surrounded by the desert’s natural beauty. The plant in the bottom right of the image is Jimson weed - beautiful, but deadly due to its poisonous nature. The butterfly represents our metamorphosis from the physical to the spiritual realm. If you’re saved by faith, this image holds happiness, promise, and hope despite the suffering of the world. If you're not, it's an image of impending, eternal doom... like the Jimson weed, beautiful, but ending with death.

This painting is on an unstretched canvas and has brass rivets at 6-inch intervals around the top edge. It is meant to be hung this way to emphasize the painting process. The unfinished edge, dripping paint, etc, refer again to the end of this physical life and its transformation into our true selves in Christ after death. Another interpretation of the drips is that they roll away the veil of this temporary realm.

If the buyer prefers, the piece could be mounted on a stretcher by their own framer (however much of the edges would be lost). Because it is loose canvas it is easier to ship rolled up in a sturdy tube.
